#PayItForward: #BreastCancer Awareness from @Bobbutterbottom

Most Fridays, I will share with you a post from another blog that I find particularly moving, interesting, or funny. They will be posts that fit the DKL mold... ones I think people who read this blog would enjoy. Another blogger I follow started something similar. I also wanted to do this because someone paid it forward to me, giving me tons of new followers. So this is the least I can do...

My two grandmothers died from breast cancer. Two of my aunts are survivors. In honor of breast cancer awareness, today I bring you an inspirational glimpse at a family's love, hope, strength, humor, and resolve. Which of us doesn't wonder how we would ever respond to adversity if faced with something like a cancer diagnosis? I applaud my blogging buddy Rich's openness and honesty, his sons' strength, and his wife's courage:

My wife is a tiny bit vain. She admits it. We all are. So obviously losing her hair was going to be an issue. But after only maybe two days of her new do, she's taking the world by storm. No wigs for this lady. She has got one good looking head and she's ready to show it off.
This doesn't mean she's lost all of her vanity though. Evidently, she actually cares what I look like too. When I asked her if she wanted me to shave my head as a show of solidarity, her response was basically:
"No, you'd look like an idiot". Ah, true love. (Read more of this heartwarmingly funny and powerful post, including pictures of a strong mom and son, by clicking here.)
That post was written a few months ago. Rich, understandably, took a hiatus from blogging to focus on his family. He recently returned with this quick update. It's another lemons-into-lemonade post. A reason to save all of those old t-shirts your wife wants to get rid of:

She tells the nurse that she's just so uncomfortable with her clothes, that she was going to go to Old Navy and buy some soft comfy tee's.

I jump in and said, "No, what you should wear is your husband's 20-year old t-shirts you keep trying to make him get rid of."

And then the greatest 30 seconds of my life happened.

The nurse, a FEMALE, nurse said, "Your husband is right."
I loved this post because I can relate. Years ago, fed up with my insistence on keeping - and wearing - fraternity rush and Yankees championship t-shirts from the 90's, My Director took a bunch of them, and sent them away to be made into a quilt. One day I'll show it to you. For now, check out the rest of Rich's t-shirt post here.

  2. Thanks man. And tell the Director, Rivera never would have hurt his shoulder if she hadn't made you throw out those shirts. I actually bumped into Mo on the streets of Manhattan when I worked there. Dude isn't so tall, but good lord was he thick. I'm not even a yanks fan, but was starstruck and just blurted out Yo Mariano and got an understated smile.
Best reliever ever. Bar none. Most important player in MLB last 20 years.
cheers and have a good weekend and thanks again

    1. The quilt is amazing. I need to work it into a post some day. But in all seriousness, I am happy to have you back blogging and interacting with us again. And, of course, to see your wife is on the road to recovery.
